A couple of months ago, a friend of mine was contemplating at which Nashville restaurant she should celebrate her 21st birthday. She wanted something classy but affordable, with an eclectic menu, signature drinks, and a comfortable yet upbeat atmosphere. I suggested Rumba, a satay bar and grill located at 3009 West End Avenue. Rumba serves up a delicious combination of Latin American, Asian, and Carribean style cuisine, all priced affordably, with a list of appetizers that are… well, incredibly appetizing.

Whether you are looking for a unique dining experience out on the town, a nice little nook to grab an exquisite snack, or an icy cool beverage with co-workers or colleagues, Rumba is definitely the place to be. Large parties will find the atmosphere welcoming and conducive to socializing and celebrating, as most groups are typically seated in the middle of the restaurant. Couples will embrace the more intimate aspects of the restaurant, such as the dim lighting and artistic décor, and they will likely enjoy the privacy of the smaller tables located off to the peripheries. The dress is casual, making it a great place to relax and unwind. Seating is available indoors or outdoors-the patio is always crowded, so if you plan on dining there, you might want to make a reservation. Cool weather? Not to worry-there are heaters outside near the tables.

Rumba is likely to offer a dish to please even the pickiest diner. Their specialty is not a particular dish, but rather the method they use to prepare their food. Meat dishes are typically prepared satay-style, using skewers and a grill, and served with exquisite dipping sauces. For those who prefer vegetarian style dishes, Rumba offers salads infused with Caribbean flavors and spices. Before diving in your meal, however, you might want to check out some of their signature drinks, inspired by far off places and tropical coastal regions. A popular one for the 21 and over crowd is the Chocolate Raspberry martini, garnished with a decadent chocolate swirl all the way to the bottom of the glass. Rumba's attention to detail makes such an impact on customers, who keep on coming back to this friendly yet upscale dining venue.

Rumba's hours are Monday-Wednesday, 11am to midnight; Thursday and Friday, 11am to 2am; Saturday 4pm to 2am; and Sunday from 5pm to midnight. Make sure to share this eclectic dining experience with friends, family, and that special significant other; it's truly a brilliant gem on West End.
